Guten Abend
So, maybe I was wrong in fighting to stay in England for longer. I am loving it here.
Very isolating at the moment socially, but keeping busy with the children, learning more German everyday, quite enjoying trying all the beer, the salami and sausages are a slight cause for alarm, but the stairs and playing with the kids are keeping me busy.
I Love the house, reminds me of being at the Cobcrofts, or the Hines, with all the modcons (no doubt what I might eventually see at the Emerys - about when Tori gets married right?), the shops are weird, with the way they are arranged, but they make sense once you stop to think about it.. Such as the Getraunke, which is the place you buy your drinks. All drinks are available here, from soft drinks, bottled water, and alcohol, and as you enter you get a crate and just fill with whatever you want. Then as you pay, you also pay a deposit for the bottles. This is refundable when you return with the empties and the crate, and off you go again. All part of the effort of getting the country to recycle more.
The world cup was a big thing for this country, and from what I understand it was the first time the leaders sort of made it ok to be proud of the country. The older generations were taught to feel ashamed of their country and the things that happened here, and this has been the first time my generation have been unofficially given permission to be proud publicly. Lynda said before this, there were never German flags flying in shop windows, or anywhere other than a small one in the foyer of a Government building. They would not be displayed on national days either. So the idea of us on Australia Day wearing the flag with fake tattoos and seeing it everywhere all the time is unheard of . But even now there is still evidence of the pride with cars still flying the flag as are shops and individual houses.
Good country so far!
Tomorrow am thinking of trying out the bier garden down the road, and Saturday morning Christina is coming with me into Frankfurt to do a little shopping and have a general look around.
Fingers crossed eh?

Sounds like fun. Good to see you enjoying the place. You might get to be Tony Hall's agent in Germany if you stay on.
